Captain Sam Dattilo: The Advocate's Captain, Sam Dattilo, is duly licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard, with 25 years of charter fishing experience on Lake Ontario for trout and salmon. He has 40 years of boating experience to assure a safe and enjoyable fishing trip. He holds Power Squadron and Auxiliary Coast Guard Certificates in addition to the U.S. Coast Guard Motor Boat Operator's License. He is past president of the Lake Ontario Charter Boat Association, a member in good standing of the Greater Rochester Sportsfisheries Association, Inc., Rochester Trout and Salmon Anglers and a Director of the Genesee Charter Boat Association.

Base of Operation: The Advocate's base of operation is located at Shumway Marine on the Genesee River (map), one of the most scenic and finest fishing areas in New York State.

The Genesee River and Irondequoit Bay flow into Lake Ontario near Rochester NY. The area offers all types of fishing with special emphasis on Salmon, Brown Trout, Steelhead and Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Small and Large mouth bass.

 

 

 

The Advocate: The Advocate is a 31' Sea Ray Boat having a 12-foot beam, twin 350 hp V8 power plant capable of speeds to 40 mph and weighing six tons. She has a sport bridge and cabin, private head, galley and lounging area below decks, and can accommodate one to six persons.

The Advocate if fully insured, undergoing a Coast Guard annual inspection to insure all required safety equipment is aboard.

The Advocate's afterdeck fishing area is 10' x 12' and she is equipped with:

  • all necessary fishing tackle (rod, reels and lures)

  • water temperature monitoring devise

Directions to the Advocate:
Directions from the East: From the New York State Thruway, Rt. 90, take exit #45. At exit 45 continue west towards Rochester on Rt. 490 for about 10 miles. Take Rt. 590 North for about 5 to 7 miles. At the fourth light turn left (sign will say Sea Breeze) and continue straight ahead through Durand Eastman Park. This road ends at St. Paul Blvd. *For vehicles less than 11', turn right onto St. Paul Blvd., go one block to traffic light and turn left onto Pattonwood Drive. Continue straight about 1/2 mile, and turn right at the traffic signal at Marina Drive. Follow the signs to Shumway Marine (MapQuest link). Directions from the West: Driving from the west on the New York State Thruway (Rt. 90), exit at #47 Leroy onto Rt. 490. Continue on Rt. 490 about 10 miles and follow the signs for Rt. 390 North. Take Rt. 390 North for about 10 miles until it ends at the Lake Ontario State Parkway. At the end of Rt. 390 stay to the right and take the Parkway east towards Rochester. Continue on the Parkway about 4 miles - it will end at a traffic light at Lake Avenue. Continue straight ahead at this light and go across the O'Rorke Bridge. When you come off the bridge continue about one city block to the next traffic signal and turn left onto Marina Drive. Follow the signs back to the marina.
